Amery Sandford and David Carriere call Born At Midnite a faux-vanity project. The Montreal pair started writing together in late 2018, jamming strictly after the party, under one rule: a song is finished in a single evening or thrown out. They work fast and off the cuff with samplers and tape machines, shading the results with punk, techno, house and new wave, and they play at self-importance, careless indifference and the me-first swagger they see as standard now.
At Midnite comes from their self-titled release on Arbutus Records, out June 26, 2026, with a saxophone solo from Mitch Davis and animation by Sandford, a visual artist whose first solo record, Continue as Amery, appeared recently. Carriere is a producer and guitarist who also plays in TOPS and Marci.
