Stranger Cat is the multi-media artist Cat Martino, who works as a vocalist, producer, composer, dancer, light sculpture creator, video maker and sound healer. She is a frequent collaborator with Sufjan Stevens, from Coachella to the Sydney Opera House, and has recorded and toured internationally with Sharon Van Etten, The Shins, including a night on SNL, Nathaniel Rateliff, Son Lux, Marissa Nadler, Passion Pit, Mark Gardener of RIDE and Richard Swift, among others. Her own music is intricate, soulful experimental art pop, marked by her velvet croon, her signature vocal looping and a production style that is electronic and organic at once. Voice and songwriting sit at the center, ringed by keyboards, looping pedals and samples of city and nature sounds, and the live show adds crystalline light sculptures she builds herself from sustainable, found materials along with her experimental dance videos, for a performance that works on every sense. Her debut album, In the Wilderness, came out on Joyful Noise Records, and she was awarded a NYFA Women's Grant in 2020 and a NYC City Corps Grant in 2021.
