Tasseomancy

Tasseomancy is the Canadian band of twin sisters Romy and Sari Lightman, covering the territory between delicate indie folk and dark, quirky dream pop. Born, raised and based in Toronto, the Lightmans made a temporary move to Halifax, Nova Scotia for school in the late 2000s and formed Ghost Bees, putting out an acoustic EP of offbeat folk called Tasseomancy on Youth Club Records in 2008. When they brought in electric instruments and reverb in 2010, they took the EP's name for the band. Ulalume, their first full-length as Tasseomancy, arrived in 2011 on Out of This Spark and Turf Records. Around that time the sisters were also touring as part of Katie Stelmanis' electro-pop project Austra, and they contributed to Austra's Feel It Break in 2011 and Olympia in 2013. Their own EP, Braid. Wind Is Coming, came out in 2013, and the long-player Palm Wine Revisited followed on Healing Power Records in 2015, with a handful of collaborators including new bandmembers Evan Cartwright and Johnny Spence. They signed with Bella Union for a lusher third full-length, Do Easy, released in 2016.
